About two months ago we started to notice a weird little thing that AJ did. At first we thought he was just trying to get attention. But then one day JP brought it up to the pediatrician and she wanted us to start noting when and why he did it. We started to realize that he did it all the time and it seemed like he didnt have control over it. So we told the doctor and that started us down this long road of doctors appointments and tests to find out if he was having seizures. No one was ever overly worried because the boy is meeting all of his developmental milestones and he was also growing. (And boy is he growing ... but that is a whole other issue :))
We had to have an EEG and it was actually a lot more traumatic than I think any of us thought it would be. Bless his heart, he was so freaked out he layed there in complete silence and just watched what was happening. They had to restrict all of his movement, put 26 leads on his little head, make him fall asleep just to wake him up, and then put strobe lights right in his face to try and induce a seizure. It took everything in me not to cry and once it was over I quickly grabbed him up to comfort him. He spent the rest of the day wanting to only be held.
We went to the neurologist a few days later and we were told that the EEG didnt show anything. So that means 1 of 2 things. Either he isnt have seizures and the movement is something else, or 2 that it didnt happen while they were watching him. So now we are going to do a 4 hour EEG where they will videotape him. But they said that if nothing happens on that one then we will be done testing him and move on past this.
It has been very trying for both of us. All we want to do is help him and to make sure that there isnt anything happening. The last thing we want to do is ignore something that might be a bigger deal than we think that could hurt him in the long run. But after the appointment this past week we are hopeful that it is nothing and we can go back to a normal - "worry-free" life. (haha, yeah right :))
